Maxine Mullen

TRAVERSE CITY — Maxine J. Mullen, 89, lifelong resident of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.

Maxine was born on May 3, 1921, to the late Jesse and Grace (Malloy) Forton in Traverse City. Maxine entered into marriage with William A. Mullen on June 22, 1936, in Wisconsin; he preceded her in death.

Maxine was a member of the Eagles #383, VFW Women's Auxiliary and the AML.

In earlier years she enjoyed dancing with her husband. Maxine could often be found painting in her house, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also found great pleasure in feeding the birds that would accompany her while planting flowers in her garden.

Maxine gave of herself for many years, caring for many young children as a foster mother. She will be missed by many.

Maxine is survived by her sons, Billy Lee (Connie) Mullen, of Traverse City, and Pat (Nancy) Mullen, of Traverse City; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Hanell and Audrey (Donald) Maison; as well as many other loving family members and friends.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Darlene Mann; her brothers, Phillip Forton and Steve Forton; and sisters, Margaret (Carl) Courtade and Evelyn (Chet) Wysocki.

Visitation for friends and family will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 4, 2011, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with Deacon Rene Hoenschied officiating. Burial will be held in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens
