North Stars blow out Hitmen

TC scores nine goals in a row to stop Chicago 9-1

TRAVERSE CITY — Chicago got in the first punch.

Traverse City then landed nine straight haymakers for a knockout blow as the North Stars scored nine unanswered goals after spotting Chicago a 1-0 lead 7:11 into the game.

Jared VanWormer tied the game at 12:54 of the first and the Stars took off in the second.

Michael Szmatula scored off Eric Rivard and Tim Opie assists just 22 seconds into the second, and TC neven looked back.

Aleander Taulien, Ryan Amin (short-handed), Mitch Snider and Kelin Ainsworth piled on second-period goals while Sean Murphy, Alex Wiese and Szmatula tacked on three more in the third.

The Stars scored five goals on Hitmen starting goalie Reid Mimmack, then added four more against former North Stars netminder Brennan Knoblock. Mimmack made 16 saves and Knoblock 13 as Traverse City generated double-digit shots on net in each period.

Traverse City goalie Tyler Marble made 19 saves on 20 shots on net.

The two teams meet up again tonight at 7 p.m. at Centre ICE.
