Run ends for North Stars in Traverse City

Franchise heads to Sault Ste. Marie for next season

From Staff Reports

TRAVERSE CITY — The run in Traverse City has reached its end.

The TC North Stars were eliminated from the NAHL playoffs with a 3-2 overtime loss to Kalamazoo on Saturday at Centre ICE, sending the team to the offseason — and Sault Ste. Marie.

Earlier in the year, it was announced this would be the team's last in northern Michigan before heading to the Upper Peninsula as the Soo Eagles.

Kalamazoo moves on to face Port Huron for the North Division title. The Jr. K-Wings won the series against Traverse City, 3-1.

After a scoreless first period, the North Stars looked like they were in position to force a decisive Game 5 when Will Badner scored off a Chris Waterstreet assist just 2:23 into the second period.

Kalamazoo evened the game off Brett Beauvais' goal, but Traverse City would persist when Badner set up Seth Adams for a score and a 2-1 lead.

Then with less than 3 minutes left before the second intermission, the Jr. K-Wings tied it again off Danny Hamburg's goal.

In overtime, Andrew Graves scored unassisted for Kalamazoo 8:13 into the extra session for the 3-2 win.
