Warriors stop Stars with flurry in 3rd

Ainsworth scores hat trick for TC

FLINT — Andrew Kolb scored two third-period goals and set up another as the Michigan Warriors overcame a 3-2 deficit to defeat the Traverse City North Stars 5-3 Wednesday.

Kolb's short-handed goal early in the third tied the game 3-3 before he set up Scott Hegegar's power-play score with 4:20 remaining and added another of his own with the man advantage in the final minute

The Stars' Kelin Ainsworth scored all three Traverse City goals. Eric Rivard and Michael Szmatula both had two assists, while Tim Opie and Travis White had one each.

Traverse City held a 38-29 advantage in shots on net — including a commanding 30-19 bulge after two periods.

Tyler Marble made 24 saves for the Stars (18-12-1), who host Chicago on Friday and Saturday.

The Warriors (18-10-3) received goals from Michael Szuma and Henegar in the second period. Kolb assisted Henegar's second-period goal to finish with four points on the night.

Michigan's Robert Tadazak made 35 saves.
