FLINT — The Traverse City North Stars clinched a playoff berth with a 4-0 shutout of the Michigan Warriors.
TC native Eric Jones scored three points on two goals and an assist, almost matching his previous season total. He now has eight points for the year.
Jones opened the scoring at 6:01 of the first period, set up Seth Adams' score 4:55 into the second and then struck again with 5:33 left in the contest on Jake Peacock and Chris Leibinger assists.
Kyle Schempp added a short-handed empty-net goal with 10 ticks left.
Zach Nagelvoort stopped all 28 shots he faced to earn his third shutout of the season in 11 games and lower his goals-against average to 2.18.
The Stars (27-16-6) stay on the road this weekend with a three-game series at last-place Jamestown. Traverse City's win Wednesday put them 25 points up on the Ironmen, who have 12 games remaining. TC has a 15-point lead on Michigan with 11 games to go and five games in hand, clinching at least the third spot in the North Division.
The Stars trail Kalamazoo by six points with three games in hand on the K-Wings.
