Stars dig in for one-goal victory

Huff fires in game-winner with 2:31 left

FROM STAFF REPORTS

ALPENA -- Andy Huff's goal kept the Traverse City North Stars -- and himself -- in first place.

Huff's wrister under the crossbar with 2:31 remaining Friday gave the Stars a 3-2 victory over Alpena to keep TC (11-4-1) atop the North Division standings.

Huff also moved back into a tie for the league lead in goals with Fairbanks' Jared Larson and Janesville's Rui Encarnarcao with 13 apiece.

Both of Alpena's goals came on 5-on-3 power plays in the first period, with Nilan Nagy and Dan Radke scoring goals for TC in between.

Josh Miller and Eric McLintock set up Nagy's marker, while Huff and Travis White picked up assists on Radke's score.

Kellin Ainsworth and goalie Drew Strandberg picked up assists on Huff's game-winner.

Strandberg also made 22 saves for the win as the Stars outshot Alpena 29-24. The two teams tangle again tonight, this time in Traverse City.
