Stars sweep through weekend

TC takes 1-point lead over USA for second place

FROM STAFF REPORTS

ALPENA -- Different day, different shootout hero.

Two days after David Johnstone's goal won a shootout with Team USA, it was Eric McLintock this time around, lighting the lamp on the final shooter to give the Traverse City North Stars a 4-3 win over Alpena and a clean sweep of a three-game weekend.

The victory moves Traverse City one point ahead of USA for second place in the North Division, although Team USA has two games in hand.

Kyle Jean also scored in the shootout, but was matched by Alpena's Jordan Miller.

The Stars took a 2-0 lead on a pair of Chris Heineman goals, as Marc Thompson, Tim Opie, Travis White and McLintock assisted.

Chris Salomone answered Jon Puskar's goal to make it 3-1 with 4:43 left in the second. Thompson picked up his second assist of the game, while Dean Pawlaczyk also had a helper.

C.J. Motte made 30 saves to improve his record to 21-9-2 on the season.

The IceDiggers sent the game into overtime on goals by Miller and Jay Camper.

The North Stars close out the 2008-09 regular season next weekend with two games at Marquette.

USA has three games left with last-place Motor City and one with Alpena.
