TRAVERSE CITY -- Kyle Bonis scored a shorthanded goal in the first period and that proved to be all Traverse City North Stars goalie CJ Motte needed Saturday night in a 2-0 North American Hockey League win over the Marquette Rangers.
Motte was voted the game's No. 1 star as he turned away 19 shots in giving the Stars a two-game weekend sweep.
Bonis netted his goal at the 8:52 mark of the first period off an Nate Urbaniak assist.
Josh Miller added what turned out to be an insurance goal, beating Rangers' goalie Kevin Kissaw at 6:36 of the second period. Chris Heineman and Phil Wendecker assisted.
Marquette outshot Traverse City 19-17. The Rangers failed to convert on five power-play opportunities.
