Gaylord — Nationally acclaimed author Bonnie Jo Campbell will read from and sign her bestselling novel, "Once Upon a River," Thursday, Aug. 16, at Saturn Booksellers, 133 W. Main St.

Senior kayak trips

Traverse City — The Senior Center Network and Uncommon Adventures are offering two kayak day trips. The trips are open to all members of the Senior Center Network.

On Wednesday, Aug. 29, seniors will begin at the Senior Center beach, 801 E. Front St., with a morning lesson, followed by lunch and a trip on Boardman Lake. The cost is $100.

On Thursday, Sept. 13, seniors will meet on Old Mission Peninsula and paddle to a local beach for a gourmet prepared meal followed by winery tours in the afternoon. This trip is $130.

All trips include sea kayaks, paddles, life vests and professional instruction. Registration can be done in person at the Senior Center. For details, call 922-4911.
