Center Gallery show

Glen Arbor — A show featuring new gouache paintings by Traverse City artist Joan Richmond will open with a reception on Friday, Aug. 31.

The reception will start at 6 p.m. at the gallery, 6023 S. Lake St. Richmond's paintings will be on display through Sept. 13. For details, call 334-3179.

Studio opens doors

Traverse City — End of the Road Studio will welcome visitors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays in September.

The studio features pottery, fused glass and paintings by Donna and Chuck Johnston. It is located at 7200 S. Shugart Road. For details, call 947-3081.

Volt raffle drawing

Glen Arbor — The winner of a new Chevrolet Volt will be drawn Saturday, Sept. 1, at a celebration event.

The "Charge Up The Dunes" raffle was conducted by TART Trails and Cherry Republic to raise money for the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail. Ticket sales totaled 1,200 and raised more than $100,000 for the trail.

The public is invited to the celebration at 5 p.m. at Cherry Republic, 6026 Lake St. The raffle drawing will be held at 6 p.m.

Gallery anniversary

Beulah — Live for Art Gallery will celebrate its first anniversary in downtown Beulah with a party and an artist reception for Sharon Dougherty of Columbus, Ohio.

The celebration will be hosted from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at the gallery, 273 S. Benzie Blvd. Dougherty's art will be featured through September. For details, call 882-9370 or visit

Corn maze opens

Northport — Leelanau County's newest corn maze will open Saturday, Sept. 1, with a fall fun party and community ribbon cutting.

"The Corn Maze at Gills Pier" is located at Gill's Pier Vineyard and Winery, 5620 N. Manitou Trail. The party will start at 11 a.m. with a ribbon cutting. There also will be live music, and a barbecue picnic. Tickets are $10 each for lunch and admission to the maze.

September maze hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. daily. Last entry is at 5 p.m. Admission is $6 for ages 3 and older; free for ages 2 and younger. For details, visit

Wine tour and run

Leelanau Peninsula — Experience the Leelanau Wine Trail at harvest time during the Harvest Stompede Vineyard Run & Walk and Wine Tour.

The Harvest Stompede starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Ciccone Vineyard, 10343 E. Hilltop Road, Suttons Bay. Options include a 5K walk, a 5K run or a seven-mile run.

The wine tour will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, and noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9. Tickets are $40 and include food and wine pairings at each of the 20 Leelanau Peninsula Vintners Association member wineries. Advance tickets are required and available at
