TRAVERSE CITY —

Book group meets

Traverse City — The Women's History Project book group will talk about "State of Wonder" by Ann Patchett at its quarterly meeting Friday, Jan. 25.

The group will meet at noon at the History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St., for a brown bag lunch and discussion. Beverages will be furnished.

Anyone currently reading the book is welcome to participate. Call Ann Swaney, 223-7489, to learn more.

Author signs book

Traverse City — Horizon Books will host a book signing by Scott Bitely.

Bitely's book, "Simmer Down, Mr. C," features lead character "Ted." Fresh out of college, Ted's goal is to teach someplace other than the tiny northern Michigan village in which he grew up. As fall approaches without a job, Ted reluctantly accepts a teaching position in his hometown of Coleman and the book traces the trials and awkward moments Ted faces as a first-year teacher.

Bitely will sign his book from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the book store, 243 E. Front St.
