What's with the anger?

Outbursts. Rage. Extreme crankiness. It's the misbehaving reality television starlet, or the frustrated driver in the car next to yours. It's tennis champ Serena Williams and rapper Kanye West behaving badly. Or, maybe, it's you.

Diver finds 'time capsule'

Libert, a part-time Charlevoix resident and president of Great Lakes Exploration, believes he may have located the remains of Le Griffon, a French ship that sank in 1679. If proven, the find would be a treasure of historical significance on a par with some of Columbus ships.

Dee Blair: A New York state of mirth

A bilious billboard reappeared again and again as I was ferried, via bike basket-nest all over New York. Huh. Piles of desperate people were seeking out their clinics, eliminating that worry. I bent double, speechless, convulsed with laughter, for what seemed like hours.

Ed Hungness: Men buy and wait; women shop

I have come to the realization that men buy and women shop. When men go shopping, they are on a mission and their goal is to complete the mission. Women actually enjoy the process and delight in meandering through endless clothing and cosmetic departments with numerous pauses along the way.

Leaf-peepers have plenty of choices

Grand Traverse Bay may overshadow its smaller sister to the north in size. But when it comes to color, Little Traverse Bay has an allure all its own. Whether it's the deep sapphire blue of its waters, the blazing reds and yellows of its foliage or the colorful character of its small cities and villages, the coastline offers plenty to see during a fall driving tour.

A multitude of mailbox casualties inspired at least two local entrepreneurs to create solutions to protect boxes from getting pulverized by plows.

Kathy Gibbons: Things could be worse

Age 22, he was waiting at the door of the Father Fred Foundation in Traverse City early one morning recently when the staff arrived. It was cold and damp out, and he said he'd been walking all night -- all the way from Northport -- because he got word the previous evening that his mom had fallen seriously ill and was in the hospital in Charlevoix. With no money or car, he walked through the night, to the foundation, hoping to get help with a bus ticket.

Centuries have faded their penmanship, but the signatures of Washington and Lincoln are immediately recognizable. Visitors to the Dennos Museum Center will have the opportunity to see documents penned by these American forefathers as well as James Madison, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin.

View From Sunnybank: Twin Towers vision

On Oct. 8 Joe and I flew to New York for three days, guests of our oldest daughter and her lovely man. They treated us to unique tours of Brooklyn and the city from bikes -- or, more accurately, from three bikes. Nothing in Roberto's collection of nine sleek racers suited my small frame, so I was popped into a roomy, cushion-padded, low-slung steel basket in front of a specially constructed pumpkin-orange cycle.

Original terrazzo floors span one end of the historic railroad depot in Traverse City. In what was once the ticket booth area of an old depot, the restored maple floor is smooth and warm-toned.

Northern People: Lions Club seeks members

The Lions Club of Traverse City, in existence for more than 65 years, has just 13 active members. On a recent drizzly night, club members turned their regular meeting over to members of the Arcadia club -- tiny Arcadia! -- for tips.
