The Grand Traverse Veterans Coalition extends a heartfelt thank you to the community and all of its supporters for a spectacular Independence Day.
"We exceeded all of our goals," wrote Larry Butcher, coalition president. "Special thanks go to members and auxiliary members of the VFW, American Legion and American Military League, to the coaches, parents and players of the American Legion Baseball program, the Traverse City Area Public Schools' bus garage and all those in the community who called and volunteered their time. And let's not forget the media's announcements to get the information out. Grand Traverse area, you're great!"

Gail and Gary Wertz and Gary Zick, all of Traverse City, wrote to thank John and Leslye Wuerfel for the wonderful Fourth of July at Wuerfel Park.
"The pre-game festivities and the post-game fireworks were more than tremendous, they were heart-warming and spectacular," the trio wrote.
They went on the add that the flyovers during the game were a nice surprise and that the veterans who were coming off the field, including their brother, were commenting on how honored and appreciated they felt.
"You have done wonderful things for our area since you built the park and that program on (July 4) tops it all. We had a great time."
