TRAVERSE CITY -- The Stanley Cup will be making a stop in Traverse City.
Local resident and Detroit Red Wings forward Dallas Drake said he will be getting the Cup for two days, taking it to his native British Columbia on July 16 and bringing it to Traverse City on Sept. 1.
He said he hasn't finalized details for the Cup's day in TC, but it could include a fund-raiser event in which fans can see the legendary NHL championship trophy up close and personal.
Drake's future as a player is also up in the air.
The 16-year NHL veteran said he hasn't decided whether he'll return to the Red Wings for another season.
"I told (general manager Ken Holland) I'm pretty undecided on whether I'm going to continue to play or not," Drake said. "There will probably be an announcement in the next week or so."
Drake has notched 477 points for his career in 1009 regular-season NHL games. He also won his first Stanley Cup this year in his second tour with the Wings.
Another Traverse City resident, Brian Rolston, isn't set on where he'll be playing next season, either.
Rolston, one of the more coveted free agents in this year's crop, is drawing interest from many teams, including reportedly the Red Wings.
The 35-year-old Flint native has scored over 30 goals in each of the last three years for the Minnesota Wild.
Minnesota traded Rolston's right to Tampa Bay on Sunday for a conditional draft pick, giving the Lightning two days to work out a deal with the forward before he hit the free-agent market at noon Tuesday. The two sides did not reach a contract agreement.
