n NEW STREET WAS BOUGHT. Madison Street will soon be opened. Will benefit west side. Threshing engine traffic to be regulated. Necessary to keep them off paved streets in order to keep pavements from being damaged by wheels.

The department of public affairs was instructed to have an ordinance drafted regulating the traffic of threshing engines over the paved streets of the city. This action was taken because the flanges on the heavy wheels of the machines cut down in the asphalt pavements and chip the brick ones in such a manner as to seriously injure them. Under the proposed ordinance the engines will have to take the alleys except where it is absolutely necessary for them to cross the paved streets.

The question of opening Madison Street from Front to Sixth came up for consideration upon the recommendation of Commissioner Sleder who stated that the property could be purchased for $500, and Hannah & Lay would contribute $100 and L.F. Wysong would grade, gravel and build a culvert on his property making the street passable. The building in the right of way will be moved at no expense to the city.

n Father Bauer of St. Francis church had a narrow escape from serious injury when his car turned turtle on the East Bay Shore Road. An axle broke and the car skidded into some sand at the side of the road, causing the car to tip. No one in the car was injured.

A telegram received this morning by Chief of Police Carson stated that Weathers is in a Galesburg, Ill., hospital, seriously injured. It is thought that Weathers was on his way west when he met with an accident.
