TC Central goes 1-1-1 at home invite
Traverse City Central started the 2013 boys soccer season on Saturday by posting a win, a loss and a tie in its home tournament.
The Trojans beat Clarkston 2-0 behind goals from Dillon Drossart and Owen Stratton, then tied Ann Arbor Skyline 2-2 as Adam Stepan and Matt Grost netted goals. In the third game Central fell to Warren DeLaSalle 2-0.
TCSF tied for fourth at East Kentwood
TC St. Francis had two singles players advance to the finals of their flights as th Gladiators tied for fourth at the East Kentwood Invitational on Saturday.
No. 2 singles Gus Danz posted wins over Grand Rapids Christian, 6-0, 6-2, and East Kentwood, 6-1, 6-0, before falling to tournament winner Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central 3-6, 7-6, 8-10 in the championship. At No. 3 singles, Jack Krcmarik got past Grand Rapids Catholic Central, 6-2, 6-3, and Grand Rapids Christian, 6-2, 6-0, but was eliminated by his opponent from Forest Hills Central, 6-2, 2-6, 7-10.
The tournament mostly featured Division 1 and 2 teams, and St. Francis’ showing was its best at that particular tournament in several years.
Other flights that were able to post wins included No. 4 singles Patrick Burke, who downed Holland 6-4, 6-1. At No. 1 doubles, Blake Bandrowski and Jay Jones topped East Kentwood 6-4, 6-2; at No. 2 doubles Brady Ray and Nathan Tafelsky beat Grand Rapids Catholic Central 6-2, 6-1; at No. 3 doubles Ryan Navin and Tyler Spigarelli beat East Kentwood 6-1, 6-1; and at No. 4 doubles Jackson Richmond and Victor Casler beat Spring Lake 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.
The Gladiators host the St. Francis Invitational on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
