TRAVERSE CITY — Construction crews plan to jump to the final phase of the State and Pine streets reconstruction project on Tuesday by blocking access to both streets and a section of West Front Street.
Crews plan to apply the final top course of asphalt to State, Pine, and Front streets on Tuesday, weather permitting. If it rains the project will be postponed until the next dry day, city officials said. Paving will take one day.
The city originally planned to do the final paving after it completed reconstruction of the Union Street and State Street intersection to lessen the impact on traffic. City engineer Tim Lodge said officials decided to try to take advantage of any dry days.
If paving can't be accomplished by Thursday, officials will return to their original schedule and begin work on the northern half of the Union Street and State Street intersection. The southern half of the intersection will remain closed to through traffic during the paving.
The city also will close access to Parking Lot E. Detours around the road closures will be posted.
