Tennis teams finish sixth in state

TC Central, Glads each score 14 points

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central and St. Francis each finished sixth in their respective divisions at the weekend state tennis finals.

Both teams scored 14 points.

In Division 1, Sean Soupiset and Cam Young lost to Novi 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 semifinals, but the TC Central tandem made history in the process. The pair finished the year with a 43-2 record, surpassing the previous state record for wins at 42.

TC Central also had semifinalists in Max Knoblock/Nick Yergens at No. 3 doubles and Trey Pezzetti/Yani Beeker. Knoblock/Yergens lost to state champ Brother Rice 6-1, 6-0 while Pezzetti/Beeker lost to state champ Brother Rice 6-0, 6-0. Both TCC teams finished 41-4.

In Division 4, St. Francis had semifinalists at 2-3 doubles with Chase Richmond/Blake Bandrowski and Evan Primeau/Corey Boudrie. Richmond and Bandowski fell to state champ Ann Arbor Greenhills 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles while Primeau and Boudrie lost to Comstock Park 6-4, 7-6 (1) in the No. 3 semis.
