Huldah Marion Hill celebrated her 100th birthday on Friday, June 7, 2013. A party was hosted in her honor on Sunday, June 9, by the Morgan and Adcock families.
Huldah is the oldest of four children born to Helena (Lueck) and William Hill. A graduate of Kingsley High School, she has been a Kingsley resident her entire life and has many friends in the Kingsley area who love and respect her. Huldah currently lives at Morgan Assisted Living, where she has been a part of the Morgan family for more than 40 years.
Huldah grew up on a farm and loves the country life. She also enjoys telling jokes and stories about life on a farm.
• Beverly Magee of South Boardman had a pleasant surprise on May 21 at Lowe’s Garden Center when a gentleman did something very, very nice for her.
Beverly admired a plant that this gentleman had and asked where he had found it. He told her, but when she got there they were all gone. Later, Beverly was waiting in line when the same gentleman came over and “plopped” the flower arrangement she had admired on her cart and told her it was for her.
“I was astonished. This was the first time anything like this has ever happened to me.” Beverly said. “It was a beautiful flower arrangement in a large pot. I offered to pay for it, but he said no. It was such nice thing for him to do.”
• In what has become an annual tradition, about 36 volunteers from the Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging packaged and delivered 232 Northwestern Michigan College barbecue meals to the agency’s clients, as well as a handful of area assisted living facilities.
“We’ve been doing this for 14 years,” said Marsha Johnson, office specialist with the Commission on Aging, who coordinated this year’s effort.
Marsha added that about half of the volunteer crew were Commission on Aging staff who enjoy working at the event, while the remaining volunteers included present and former board members, Golden Kiwanis members and other long-time volunteers.
“The logistics get to be quite something for this operation,” Marsha said. “We assemble the meals, package them, then do all the deliveries.”
She also credited Northwestern Michigan College Food Services with facilitating the process.
