---- — GRAND RAPIDS — Traverse City Central won each of its eight matches on the way to capturing the title of the Northwest Michigan Invitational girls tennis tournament on Saturday.
Central finished the day with 16 points. Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central was second with 12. Grandville took third with nine points and Holly was fourth with six points.
The tournament was initially scheduled to be hosted by the Trojans in Traverse City, but inclement weather forced it to move indoors in Grand Rapids.
Central’s top two singles players, Paige Cooley and Kelly Milliken, went the entire day without dropping a game. Cooley defeated her opponents from Holly and Jenison 4-0 and 4-0. Milliken had the same success against her opponents from Allen Park and Jenison.
At No. 3 singles, Christi Druskovic won 4-2, 4-2 against Grandville and 4-2, 4-1 against Jenison, while Taylor Weckstein won 4-1, 4-1 against Forest Hills Central and 4-0, 4-0 against Holly.
The Trojans’ No. 1 doubles team of Kitty Mast and Elizabeth Pappas won 4-0, 4-0 against Allen Park and battled back to win 4-5, 4-1, 11-9 against Holly.
At No. 2 doubles, Leah Potter and Katie Raymond were victorious 4-0 and 4-0 against Forest Hills Central and 4-0, 4-2 against Allen Park.
The No. 3 team of Devin Dotterrer and Abby Palisin won 4-2, 4-0 over Holly and 4-1, 4-1 against Forest Hills Central.
Amelia Pezzetti and Molly Whiting won 4-1, 4-2 against Allen Park and 4-0, 4-0 over Grandville in the No. 4 doubles flight.
The Trojans, ranked seventh in the state in Division 1, are scheduled to host the Up North Invitational on Thursday and the Traverse City Central Invitational on Saturday.
