New gazebo graces Pavilions' grand lawn

TRAVERSE CITY — When the summer Concert on the Lawn series returns at Grand Traverse Pavilions this summer, it will be to a new venue: a 36-foot gazebo donated by the Agnes Hayden family of Traverse City.

It’s a much-needed and welcome addition to the Pavilions’ “grand lawn,” said Patti DeAgostino, Pavilions marketing and community relations director.

“It will be a legacy to the Haydens and an inviting setting for concerts, picnics and other outdoor gatherings,” she said.

Designed to blend in with the surrounding 19th-century architecture, the gazebo is the new focal point for the park-like setting where summer concerts on the lawn resume this year on July 11. It was constructed to The Pavilions’ specifications for shape, color, ornamentation, roofing and other features.

In addition to the gazebo, the Hayden donation will fund spring construction of pathways on the massive lawn.

“The pathways will allow individuals with mobility challenges to navigate in walkers, wheelchairs and with canes on the grass,” DeAgostino said.

Established in 1997, the Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation is the fundraising arm of Grand Traverse Pavilions. The Foundation is led by a team of 20 civic leaders.
