Humanists meet

TRAVERSE CITY — John Robert Williams, a co-founder of the Traverse City Film Festival, will discuss the festival with the Grand Traverse Humanists group at 7 p.m. today, July 8, at the History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St. The program is free and open to the public. LELAND — Summer at the Old Art Building, 111 Main, includes Leelanau Summinars presentations starting today, July 8.

Artist reception

BELLAIRE — Parkside Arts Council will host an artist reception for Bellaire photography artist Tom Brown, who has been creating photography for 30 years.

Summer reading

TRAVERSE CITY — Children through fifth grade are invited to join the Peninsula Community Library to create a miniature fairy garden with master gardener Karen McClatchey.

The program starts at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at the library, 2699 Island View Road, and includes stories, activities and the craft project. It is part of the library's Summer Reading Club. For details or to sign up, call the library, 223-7700.

Pico and Chown

THOMPSONVILLE — Pianist David Chown and vocalist Miriam Pico will perform a selection of original songs and jazz standards for the next in the Michigan Legacy Art Park's Summer Sounds Concert Series.

The duo will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, July 12, at the art park on the grounds of Crystal Mountain Resort. Rides to the amphitheatre begin at 6:15 p.m. for those unable to walk the trail. Guests may bring picnics, lawn chairs or blankets. Folding chairs also will be available to purchase or rent.
