Downtown leader passes away

TRAVERSE CITY — A community pillar who literally helped shape downtown Traverse City died unexpectedly Sunday night of an apparent heart attack.

For more than three decades, Bryan Crough, 59, left his mark on local politics and culture, serving as a city commissioner, mayor, president of the Traverse City Rotary Club and as the Downtown Development Authority’s current executive director.

He is credited with helping revitalize downtown Traverse City and its arts community through his work at the Old Town Playhouse and now-defunct Traverse City Arts Council.

See Tuesday's Record-Eagle for more information.
