Duo repeats as champions of Au Sable Canoe Marathon

OSCODA — Andrew Triebold and Steve Lajoie won their sixth straight AuSable River Canoe Marathon on Sunday, capturing the grueling race in 14 hours, 20 minutes and 24 seconds.

The victory was the seventh overall for the duo, from Grayling and Mirabel, Quebec, respectively.

Nick Walton and Chris Proulx ended up coming in second in a time of 14:32:32.

Traverse City’s Pete Mead, who teamed with Mike Davis, had the top finisher of the local paddlers who entered, coming in sixth in 14:42:55.


Traverse City Wolves win to keep playoff hopes alive

DETROIT — The Traverse City Wolves kept their playoff hopes alive with a 14-6 win over the host Wayne County Bengals on Saturday night.

The Wolves (4-4) need a victory over the Michigan Grizzlies in next Saturday’s regular-season home finale to qualify for the postseason.

Against the Bengals, Traverse City built a 6-0 lead after one period and were ahead 14-0 at the half. The Wolves held on in the second half.
