FRANKFORT — A pair of Benzie County residents are accused of pilfering a knick-knack from an upscale home and then reselling it at a yard sale.
Donald Ferguson Marshall, 52, and Kimberly Ann Hill, 36, both of Frankfort, are each charged with single felony counts of receiving and concealing stolen property. They were arrested after authorities said a shopper at a Frankfort antiques store noticed a unique covered dish for sale that was identical to one that had disappeared from her home.
“It was a covered dish, blue and white with a chicken in a basket on it,” Benzie County Detective Sgt. Troy Lamerson said.
The shopper spoke to the store owner who said she’d purchased the covered dish at a nearby yard sale. The woman then went to the yard sale, noticed at least one other item that had vanished from her home, and called authorities.
Lamerson said a search warrant was served at the yard sale at 2229 Frankfort Highway. An investigation is continuing into items reported missing from at least four other residences near Crystal Lake since fall.
Marshall and Hill have not been charged in any of those incidents.
