It’s gonna cost ya

I am so fed up with the greed that is running this town. I would like to know a few things when it comes to the National Cherry Festival.

Why increase the costs to vendors? They will have to increase their prices, and who does that hit? You and me.

Now for the bigger question, why can’t we move it back to the second to third week of July as it once was? Then we could use our local cherries. Oh, that’s right; you have to tie into a national holiday, the Fourth of July, to get as much money as you possibly can.

Last but not least, bring back the best parade, the Heritage; it was so much fun, old cars, kids with their animals, many things to do with our local heritage.

I feel badly for many local families that work for a living in this town who would like to take their kids down to the events, who live on a budget. Beware, it’s gonna cost ya.

Make your voice heard

State law defines bullying in the school as activity that “adversely affects the ability of a pupil to participate in or benefit from the school district’s or public school’s educational programs or activities by placing the pupil in reasonable fear of physical harm or by causing emotional distress.”

It seems pretty obvious that strangers openly carrying firearms in a school setting create “fear of physical harm” and “emotional distress” for our children. It is bullying plain and simple and bullying in our state’s public schools is supposed to be illegal.

Those of us who find these “gun situations” frightening and terribly sad need to speak up and make our voices heard to local officials, legislators and to those who think open carry is necessary and trumps our right to educate our children in a safe environment free from bullies. Personally, I’m tired of the National Rifle Association banking our legislators and making all the rules. We need a reasonable, bi-partisan approach to gun safety and we need it now.
