DETROIT — The Traverse City Wolves earned their second victory of the season with a 28-21 win Saturday night over the Oakland County Chargers.

The Wolves (2-4) play at home Saturday against the Grand Rapids Thunder (2-4). Grand Rapids shut out the Wayne County Bengals 19-0 Saturday.

Traverse City never trailed at any quarter break and led 14-13 at halftime.

In the first quarter, the Wolves scored on a Jonathan Craven 5-yard touchdown run (with Davonn Cooper two-point conversion). Craven also tossed TD passes of 58 and 70 yards to Jarvis Greenhill, while Matt Ohlert blocked an Oakland County punt that was recovered by Vai Taula for a touchdown and Scott Rademaker had a safety.

During the 2012-13 campaign, the 19-year-old Howell native played for the Battle Creek Jr. Revolution of the North American 3 Hockey League, tallying seven goals and four assists for 11 points in 33 games. Three of those seven goals came in the final five games of the season.

Gay, Powell test positive for banned subtance

American 100-meter record holder Tyson Gay, who had promoted himself as a clean athlete, tested positive for a banned substance and said he will pull out of the world championships next month in Moscow.

Gay wouldn’t reveal the substance in a phone conversation from Amsterdam on Sunday, but he said he was notified by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency late last week that a sample came back positive from a May 16 out-of-competition test. He said he will have his “B” sample tested soon, possibly as early as this week.
