Munch wins TC Amateur title

SUTTONS BAY — Winton Munch won the Traverse City Amateur by six strokes Sunday at the Leelanau Club.

The Traverse City Central standout shot a 74 Sunday for a two-day 149. TC’s Brandon Theophilus was second with a 155, followed by Bruce Anderson and Ed Price with 161s.

Gary Thaxton shot 80-76 for a two-day 156 to take the senior division, with Keither Anderson second at 171 and Kalkaska’s Jim Wolcott and TC’s Glen Hutchinson tied fro third at 174.

Munch and Thaxton also win spots in July 4’s Junior Royale Parade as part of the National Cherry Festival.

AJGA junior championshipsat Boyne

HARBOR SPRINGS — The American Junior Golf Association will return to Harbor Springs when 144 of the nation’s top junior golfers compete in the 10th annual Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands.

Boyne’s Heather Course will host the 54-hole, stroke-play event.

The event will begin with a 2 p.m. shotgun practice round July 1. Tournament round tee times will run from 7:30–9:09 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees (first wave) and noon–1:39 p.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees (second wave) on July 2-4. An awards ceremony will follow the final round.

Kingsley Stagswin U10 tourney

GRAND HAVEN — The Kingsley Stags U10 travel team won the Grand Haven Invitational with a 4-1 record this weekend, closing things out with a 10-4 championship win over Howell on Sunday.

Coming off a 4-0 title performance the previous weekend in Gaylord, the Stags beat Muskegon (12-3), Rockford (13-3) and split with Fowlerville (winning 5-4 and losing 12-11).

Hitting leaders for Kingsley were Owen Graves (9 for 14), Beau Latulip (6 for 12) and Aden Leonard (7 for 11), while Graves, Jayden Inthisone, Tyler Inthisone and Joey Lewis earned victories on the mound.
