---- — Preschool playdates

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Cooperative Preschool invites area families to twice-monthly natural playscape playdates at its new Hilly Hollow playground.

The playground is designed to connect children with nature and uses natural materials to provide a creative and interactive play experience. It also includes traditional elements such as swings, a hill slide and a tire climb.

Playdates will be held from 10 a.m. to noon starting Tuesday, June 25, at the preschool, 720 S. Elmwood Ave. A preschool board or parent member will be on hand to provide access to restrooms and a water fountain. Picnic tables are available.

Summer reading

TRAVERSE CITY — Children through fifth grade are invited to “Dig into Summer” with the Peninsula Community Library’s summer reading program.

The program starts Thursday, June 27, at 6 p.m. with pizza and a performance of “Readers of the Lost Book” by the Acting Up Theater at the library, 2699 Island View Road. The Summer Reading Club continues at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, and Thursdays, July 11 and 18. It concludes July 25 with trainer Mike Roberts from Animal Encounters and the Dig Tales program followed by a Treasure Dig and Diggers Picnic.

Botanic Garden

FRANKFORT — Plant It Wild will sponsor a presentation on the Botanic Garden of Northwest Michigan by Karen Schmidt, chair of the Botanic Garden Society of Northwest Michigan, on Wednesday, June 26, with a follow-up tour of the garden on Saturday, July 13.

The program will start at 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 955 James St. The tour will start at 10 a.m. July 13, led by Schmidt. Both the program and tour are free and open to the public. For details, call 392-1206 or 352-6962.

German Club

TRAVERSE CITY — The German Club of Traverse City, a German speaking group interested in discussing cultural subjects, meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month at The Filling Station Microbrewery at the old Railroad Station, Woodmere Avenue and East Eighth Street. The next meeting is Thursday, June 27.

Used book sale

BENZONIA — The Friends of the Benzonia Public Library will hold their used book sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 28-29, at Mills Community House, 891 U.S. 31. For details, call 882-4111.

TC ‘83 reunion

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City High School class of 1983 will hold its 30-year reunion on Saturday, July 6.

The celebration will be held in the Park Place Hotel Dome, 300 E. State St. The cost is $38 in advance or $40 at the door and includes appetizers, non-alcoholic beverages, music and dancing. Music camp

TRAVERSE CITY — The SEEDS “School of Rock” music camp will be held Monday through Thursday, July 8-11, at Twin Lakes Camp on North Long Lake Road. Camp is designed for students in sixth through 12th grade with all levels of musical experience.

Camp starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. each day. Students participate in workshops led by professional musicians and the school concludes with a performance on July 11 at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St. For details or registration, visit http://seedsschoolofrock.eventbrite.com.

WOW registration

BENZONIA — Sign up is under way for the fall session of the WOW (Way Out Women) program at Benzie Area Christian Neighbors.

The program is devoted to supporting women on their way out of poverty through pursuit of higher education from an accredited college. The program will meet bi-monthly starting in September. For details or to sign up, call 882-9544.
