- To Mike and Kim Babcock, owners of Trend Services, recipients of Kalkaska’s 2013 Citizen of the Year Award. The Babcocks were recognized for their community involvement along with representatives of Coding Products, winner of the 2013 Kalkaska Business of the Year Award. Kim Babcock is also Kalkaska Memorial Health Center’s director of operations.

- To five Traverse City high school vocalists and two Interlochen Academy students among 10 finalists in the Verdi’s Opera Theatre of Michigan’s “Concert of the Finalists.” They are: Marin Tack and Kimberly DeBusschere from Traverse City Central High; West Senior High students Chiara Gerding, Elena Mosher and Rachel Shaughnessy; and Claudillea Holloway and Marina Kondo from the arts academy.

- To Phil’s on Front, which is donating half the proceeds from entrees Sunday through Wednesday during April to four local nonprofit organizations: The Goodwill Inn, the Father Fred Foundation, Third Level Crisis Intervention and Inland Seas. Phil’s is at 236 E. Front St. Call 929-1710.

- To two local reading programs: the GRASP at-home summer reading and math program is for K-8 students through Northwestern Michigan College; deadline is May 14, call 995-1700; and Central Michigan University Global Campus will hold a K-12 summer reading clinic July 8-Aug 1; registration is limited, call 995-1756.

- To Kingsley Baptist Church, which has opened a food pantry. Families throughout the Kingsley community can collect two bags of groceries free of charge. The pantry will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.

- To the Zonta Club of Traverse City, which will accept applications until April 19 for two science scholarships: a June 17-18 Inland Seas overnight experience in Suttons Bay for young women in 10th through 12th grades; and a general engineering scholarship for students in ninth-11th grade to attend Michigan Technological University in Houghton, July 14-20.
