Garden club meets

TRAVERSE CITY — Sandi McArthur from Oryana Natural Foods Market will be the guest speaker at the Tuesday, April 9, meeting of the Cherryland Garden Club.

At the 7 p.m. meeting, McArthur will talk about healthy eating with a focus on greens and what to combine them with for a tasty side dish. Recipes will be available. For details, directions or reservations, call 228-6720.

Library Friends

TRAVERSE CITY — The Friends of the Peninsula Community Library will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the library, 2699 Island View Road. Call 223-7700 to learn more.

Prayer vigil

TRAVERSE CITY — The community is invited to join the United Methodist Women of Central United Methodist Church to pray for the success of the Saturday, April 27, “Dream Deferred Action Clinic.”

The prayer vigil will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the chapel at Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St. The clinic is supported by Justice for Our Neighbors, an organization that promotes just and humane immigration reform.

College for Kids

TRAVERSE CITY — Registration for Northwestern Michigan College’s College for Kids gets under way Friday, April 12.

One-week classes are held throughout the summer starting June 17 and include more than 170 learning adventures for children ages 4 to 17. Most classes cost between $59 and $79. For details or to register, visit www.nmc.edu.ees or call 995-1700.

Fiber Arts classes

TRAVERSE CITY — Notably Natural Fine Yarns is offering a variety of classes during April.

Classes meet Tuesday through Thursday at the business, 800 Cottageview Dr., suite 6. Afternoon classes meet from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Evening classes are held 6-7:30 p.m. Free evening sessions include Village Open Stitch Wednesdays, April 10, 17 and 24; knitting on Thursday, April 11; and crocheting on Thursday, April 25.
