Education Newsmakers: 04/08/2013

- The following area students were named on Olivet College’s 2012 fall semester Dean’s List: Nicholas Allen, of Scottville, Megan VanderVlucht, of McBain, Devin Blue and Stephen Wheelock, of Traverse City, Jensen Aubry, of Grayling.

- The following area students were named on the Bethel College, Mishawaka, Ind., 2012 fall semester Dean's List: Amber Elder, of Mancelona, Krystina Hockin, of Rapid City, Joseph Morrison and Sarah Morrison, of Williamsburg.

- The North Central Michigan College Library in Petoskey is one of 840 libraries and state humanities councils across the country selected to receive the Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA). The program aims to familiarize public audiences in the United States with the people, places, history, faith and cultures of Muslims in the United States and around the world. The Muslim Journeys Bookshelf includes books that explore the themes of American stories, connected histories, literary reflections, pathways of faith, points of view and art, architecture and film.

- Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio, presented a Presidential Scholarship to St. Francis High School senior, William Eckhoff, of Traverse City.

- The Pathfinder School was recently recognized by the Independent School Association of the Central States (ISACS) as a fully accredited independent school. Pathfinder engages in a rigorous external process of accreditation, regularly affirming that practices are aligned with the high standards of ISACS. The school’s ISACS accreditation was fully affirmed by a visiting team and the Executive Committee of the ISACS Board of Trustees. The school was commended for “fostering creative and critical thinking in a nurturing, joyful, stimulating school climate where every child feels known and appreciated.”
