Northern Notes: Woman thanks those who helped after accident

Margaret Lange of Traverse City wrote to thank everyone at Square Deal Country Store on Woodmere Avenue, who helped keep a bad situation from becoming even worse.

“I am the lady who got in an accident exiting your parking lot on Feb. 8,” Margaret wrote. “I want to thank everybody who came out to help me. I was badly shaken and someone drove my car back into the lot. I especially want to thank the young man who removed my bumper enabling me to drive my car home. The bumper was hanging partly on the ground and, but for his help, the car would have had to be towed. I may have neglected to thank everyone individually, but your help in a difficult situation was greatly appreciated.”

During a photo shoot of a 1966 Mustang convertible, local hairstylist/model Megan Dunn, Northern Limousine Bus Service owner Scott Nelson and photographer Ragnar Avery came up with a calendar project to support the Kalkaska County Animal Shelter.

They decided that the calendar theme would be fast machines and beautiful women. During 2013, local models Dunn, Nikki Martell, Emi Wolf, Alyse Marvin, Kaili Nichols, Lexi Boomgaard and Sammie Accardo donated their time to be photographed with a variety of snowmobiles, trucks and hot rods. The calendar was launched in October and in February 2014, a check for $650 was presented to Chuck Hall representing the animal shelter.

“The community is encouraged to continue their support of the Kalkaska County Animal Shelter Building Fund to help with maintenance and upkeep of the facility,” photographer Ragnar Avery wrote.

He added that calendars are still available by contacting his photography Facebook page, through Hall at the animal shelter, or from Nelson at Northern Limousine Bus in Lodi.
