DETROIT — The Detroit Fighting Irish outscored the Traverse City Hounds 3-1 in a shootout to take a 3-2 win on Sunday.
It was Detroit’s second straight shootout win over the Hounds and completed a weekend sweep.
Ken Winter, Nolan Jakrzewski and James Smith netted the shootout goals for the Fighting Irish, while Traverse City’s only score in the shootout came from Cam Fisher.
Fisher’s goal at the 14:32 mark of the third period ultimately sent the game into overtime and culminated a comeback from a 2-0 deficit.
Fisher’s score, which was assisted by Dalton Gertsen and Scott Luca, followed a goal from Matthew Passino five minutes earlier. Assists on the first goal went to Alex Devries and Jacob Gillis.
Detroit (7-2) took its lead on a first-period goal from Winter and a power play goal by James Smith early in the third period.
David Krejcik made 33 saves in goal for the Hounds (8-1) who still lead their division by four points over Detroit.
