Teen poetry contest

KALKASKA — Students in sixth through 12th grade are invited to submit entries for a poetry contest sponsored by the Kalkaska County Library.

Poems must be typed or clearly written and multiple entries are permitted. Submissions will be accepted from today, March 31, through Friday, April 18, at the library, 247 S. Cedar St. Inappropriate poems may be disqualified. First through third place will be awarded. For details, call the library, 258-9411.

Kingsley Lions Club

Juniper Garden Club

RAPID CITY — The Juniper Garden Club of South Torch Lake will meet on Tuesday, April 1.

The meeting starts at 12:30 p.m. at the Little Red School House Community Center. Grenetta Thomassey, program director of the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council, will give a presentation on fracking. New members are welcome. Email to learn more.

‘Off The Wall’ film

ALDEN — The 2009 film “Mao’s Last Dancer” is the next film in the Off the Wall Movie Night series.

The film will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the Helena Township Community Center, 8751 Helena Road. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Those coming for the meal are asked to sign up to bring a dish to pass or consider a donation.

SAR group meets

TRAVERSE CITY — The Northern Michigan Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will hold a luncheon meeting on Saturday, April 5.
