Traverse City Record-Eagle

---- — Has its work cut out

As a retired teacher from downstate I have been following the trials and tribulations of Traverse City Area Public Schools.

One observation is that the school board doesn’t seem to support its teachers and staff. There’s a “We’re in charge and we will tell you, no input please,” attitude. This seems to be a human resources, finance department failure.

Secondly there’s a feeling the administration doesn’t seem to know what’s going on in the schools and is more interested in hype.

Living in Green Lake Township I found it interesting that Interlochen Elementary school might not be needed. If this is true why were two mileage elections proposed, in part, to build a new school in Interlochen? The board supports its current superintendent, but why build a new building if Interlochen students could fill other existing schools?

The current board has it work cut out for itself, but I wonder if they have the ability.
