West claims two firsts at wrestling tourney

TRAVERSE CITY — Caleb Paris took top honors at 103 pounds and James Peck was first at 215 pounds to lead the Traverse City West wrestling team at the Grand Traverse County Classic on Sunday at West High School.

The Titans also had three second-place finishers in their respective classes as Vincent Priante was runner up at 112 pounds, Jonah Jasman was second at 125 pounds and Gabe Jasman was second at 152 pounds. Zac Provost was third at 160 pounds, while Mike Lambert (145) and Drew Dennzer (152) were fourth.

Forest Area had three first-place finishers, with Landon Elliott (119), Matt Elliott (130) and Brandon Ames (171) each going undefeated. Chris Schelske was second at 160 pounds, Reese Velfling was third at 285 and Deon Burke took fourth at 171.

St. Francis had a first-place finisher in Zach Schaub.

Kingsley’s best finisher was Nick Ames at 189 pounds, where he was first. Brian Lark was second for the Stags at 171.

Third places went to Tyler Slater (125), Jake King (140), Levi Warren (152) and David Bruner (103). Max Denny (119), Taylor Lown (189) and Dustin Kerr (215) were each fourth.
