Sports in Brief: 12/16/2013

DETROIT — Junior Ellisha Crosby (Traverse City Bulldogs) scored a career-high 33 points Sunday in a 104-96 loss to Eastern Michigan at Calihan Hall.

Crosby also grabbed 10 rebounds for her team-leading fifth double-double of the year for the 3-8 Titans.

It was Crosby’s third 20-point game of the season.

MICHIGAN STATE 80, OAKLAND 62: Redshirt freshman Aerial Powers had her third double-double in the last four games with 21 points and 11 rebounds as Michigan State defeated Oakland, 80-62 on Sunday afternoon at Breslin Center.

Annalise Pickrel added 20 points, including 5-for-6 from 3-point, as MSU improved to 6-4 on the season.

Jasmine Hines (Central Lake), playing in her third game, logged a season-high 19 minutes, posting season highs of five points and eight rebounds.

TC Hounds beat Street Cats 3-2

ALPENA — Tyler Thirlby had a goal and an assist as the Traverse City Hounds beat the Alpena Street Cats 3-2 Saturday night to complete a weekend sweep.

Adam Jonak and Scott Luca also scored for the Hounds and Premysl Synek picked up two assists.

Traverse City goalie David Krejcik made 16 saves for the win.On Friday, Thirlby and Kevin Miloser each registered two goals to lift the Hounds past Alpena 6-1. Krejcik stopped 26 shots.

Alex DeVries and Patrick Rogowski also scored for the Hounds and Clayton Dowlan contributed two assists in the game.

The first-place Hounds (18-3-0-2) host the Soo Firehawks on Friday and Saturday nights at Centre ICE Arena.
