Prep Sports Roundup: Titans drop final two

Traverse City West followed a 2-1 day on Saturday with back-to-back losses on Sunday at the Stars Invitational softball tournament.

The Titans (3-10) started the tournament off well, grabbing wins over Farmington Hills Harrison, 11-5, and Birmingham Marion, 10-6, and losing only to Durand, 6-3. But Sunday turned out to be much more difficult as Goodrich handed West a 5-0 loss and Northville beat the Titans 12-6.

Leading West's offense at the tournament were: Laura Krieger, who had five hits, including three doubles, and scored six run; Amber Vrautigam, with five runs scored, a double among three hits and two RBIs; Carley Drzewiekie, with five runs, a double among five hits and six RBIs; Kelly O'Hara, who had a double and a triple; Abby Howard, with three hits; and Ashley Zeits, who chipped in a double among two hits and scored twice.

The Titans are at TC Central on Tuesday.



Bear Lake goes 0-3 at Manton Invite

Bear Lake played in the Manton Invitational on Saturday, dropping games against Manton, 13-3, Suttons Bay, 8-6, and Kingsley, 11-5.

Against Manton, Nicole Gervin went 1-for-2 with an RBI, Emileigh Ferguson went 1-for-2, including a triple, and Jill Johnson went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Katie Millard struck out eight in the loss to Suttons Bay. At the plate, Katelyn Adams, McKenna Fink and Gervin each went 2-for-3, with Adams and Gervin driving in runs.

Adams went 2-for-4 in the game versus Kingsley. Ferguson added an RBI hit and Katelyn Pruyne doubled.


TC West JV reaches finals of Mason County Central Invite

The Traverse City West junior varsity baseball team won two straight games before falling to the host Spartans in the championship game at Saturday's Mason County Central Invitational.

West lost in the finals, 15-2. In their previous two games the Titans posted wins over Hart, 12-5, and Ludington, 7-6.

Jacob Casciano took the loss for West in the finals. Jared Roth got the win against Hart and Chase Cavric was the winning hurler against Ludington.

Top hitters for West were Casciano, Jacob Wood and Nick Brzezinski.
