---- — Library Friends meet

BELLAIRE — The Friends of the Bellaire Library will hold their annual meeting today, May 6.

The group will meet at 2 p.m. at the library, 111 S. Bridge. Rapid City resident Lee Boisvert will discuss her book “Keewaydinoquay, Stories from My Youth.” The public is invited.

Road Rally

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Area Public Schools Montessori at Glenn Loomis will hold a Road Rally fundraiser on Friday, May 10. Registration forms and fees are due today, May 6.

Road Rallies are scavenger hunts where teams compete for points and meet at a final destination for food and prizes.

The Rally will start at InsideOut Gallery, 229 Garland St. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the rally at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $20 per team and is open to adults ages 21 and older. For details, email Kathie Cesario, kcesario@mhc.net.

Railroad Society

TRAVERSE CITY — The Railroad Historical Society of Northwest Michigan meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St. Member Brian Leiteritz will present the DVD “Pacific Northwest Holiday.” Anyone interested in railroads or railroading is welcome.

Parkinson’s support

TRAVERSE CITY — Jason Roth of Medtronics will discuss Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) at the Tuesday, May 7, meeting of the Parkinson’s Evening Support Group. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the Traverse City Senior Center, 801 E. Front St. For details, call 946-1323 or 947-1946.

Book discussion

ELK RAPIDS — Terri Reisig, Elk Rapids High School English literature teacher and a Northwestern Michigan College instructor, will lead a discussion of Rachel Carson’s book “Silent Spring” from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at Siren Hall, 151 River St. The event is sponsored by the Elk Rapids District Library. Aging Commission

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the Commission on Aging, 520 W. Front St. Call 922-4688 to learn more.

iPad Essentials

SUTTONS BAY — The Suttons Bay Friendship Community Center, 201 W. Broadway, will offer an “iPad Essentials” class on Thursday, May 9.

The class will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $45 per person and registration is required. To register, call 271-4630. Payment may be dropped off during office hours Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

Teen foodies

TRAVERSE CITY — Teens and preteens are invited to make no-bake treats to take home at a “Teen Foodies” event Thursday, May 9, at the Peninsula Community Library, 2699 Island View Road.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Ingredients will be provided, but participants will need to bring some supplies. There also will be a pizza dinner. For details, a list of supplies to bring and to register, call the library, 223-7700.

‘The Lorax’ shown

ELK RAPIDS — The Elk Rapids Library will sponsor a screening of “The Lorax” as part of Green ER Days.

The film will be shown at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at The Lighthouse, 404 Spruce St. Local artist Martina Hahn also will perform. All ages are welcome.

Science Day

SUTTONS BAY — Inland Seas Education Association will host a Family Science Day on Saturday, May 11, at the ISEA Education Center.

Fibromyalgia group

TRAVERSE CITY — The local fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue support group will observe Fibromyaligia Awareness Month at its Saturday, May 11, meeting.

The group will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. at Munson Medical Center, 1105 Sixth St. Guest speakers are James Berg, PA-C, from the Jones Center for Pain Management, and Physical Therapist Heather Greenwald from Munson West Front Physical Therapy.

USPS collects food

TRAVERSE CITY — Mail carriers in most communities in the five-county area will collect non-perishable food for the Northwest Food Coalition.

Participating carriers will leave a postcard about the drive in boxes this week. Homes receiving a card may leave bags of food near their mailboxes on Saturday, May 11. The carrier or a marked car volunteer will collect the donations. Others interested in donating who live in non-participating areas should contact their local post office about where to donate.

Safety Day

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Christian School will host a free Safety Day on Saturday, May 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the school 753 Emerson. A wet-weather alternative will be announced at www.tcchristianschools.org. For details, call 510-4793.
