KALKASKA — Authorities charged a Kalkaska man with delivering drugs that led to a fatal heroin overdose.
Mark Alan Cross, 34, is accused in the overdose death of William Henry Dansak, 40, of Mancelona.
Dansak and Charles Dean Creamer, 52, of Novi, both overdosed on heroin in Kalkaska Township Oct. 22.
Creamer recovered, but Dansak died Oct. 25 at Munson Medical Center.
Sheriff's deputies arrested four men on Oct. 22 in relation to the incident, but had to arrest Cross twice.
He was charged Oct. 26 by Kalkaska County' Prosecuting Attorney Michael Perreault with delivery of heroin causing death and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Kalkaska County Sheriff David Israel said Cross and another man were originally charged with unrelated offenses on Oct. 22. Cross was released on bond Oct. 24. The new charges were issued after Dansak died.
Also charged in the incident were Demetrius V. Booker, 45, of Detroit, and Nathan Robert Headapohl, 28, of Kalkaska. Booker is charged with delivery or manufacture of heroin and assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer. Headapohl is charged with maintaining a drug house and two counts of delivery or manufacture of heroin.
Israel said Cross was charged with delivery because of his direct involvement with Dansak, but declined to provide additional details.
