Man faces domestic violence offense
TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City man’s arrest could lead to his sixth domestic violence conviction.
Christopher Kraft, 25, faces a felony third-offense domestic violence charge. Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Bob Cooney said he authorized the charges in a temporary warrant after sheriff’s deputies arrested Kraft on Saturday.
Domestic violence cases typically count as misdemeanors in Michigan, but third offenses and beyond are felonies with up to 5-year prison sentences. Cooney said a criminal background search found Kraft has five prior domestic violence convictions since 2009 from Leelanau County and Livonia.
An arraignment in 86th District Court has yet to be scheduled.
