— TRAVERSE CITY - Traverse City commissioners selected their top candidate for city manager.
Commissioners on Saturday unanimously picked Jered Ottenwess from a field of six candidates. He is expected to replace outgoing City Manager Ben Bifoss.
Ottenwess currently works as a manager for the community of Ishpeming in the Upper Peninsula.
“He’s going to be a very good and interesting fit for the community,” said city Commissioner Mike Gillman. “He’s the youngest of the candidates, but it was clear he has a level of enthusiasm about him that was impressive, as was the amount of homework he’d done looking at Traverse City. He knew what our operations were.”
Ottenwess still has to undergo a background check. Gillman said the commission also has to negotiate a contract with him.
