TRAVERSE CITY — A man who flashed a pocket knife at a group of people likely will face criminal charges.
City police went to the 600 block of East State Street on Monday at about 1 a.m. Two men and two women in their early twenties were walking down the street when a male suspect, 31, crossed the street from the other side and confronted them.
He yelled that he was "ready to roll" and said "it’s on," then pulled out what the victims said was a shiny object from his pocket and pointed it at the group. One of the victims had a can of pepper spray and threatened to spray the suspect, who maintained his distance while another victim called police.
Police found a shiny pocket knife on the suspect and arrested him for assault. When interviewed, the suspect made "rambling statements that made little sense," police said. He has a lengthy criminal history with several felonies.
