TRAVERSE CITY — Taylor Kehoe shot an 87 to finish third individually as Traverse City West finished third at the TC West Invitational at Mistwood Golf Club.

TC Central’s Amelia Pezzetti carded an 85 to tie for first in leading the Trojans to a fourth-place finish at the 10-team tournament.

The Titans had a team score of 392, while the Trojans were one stroke behind. For West, Hunter Kehoe was eighth overall with a 94, followed by Summer Slack (105) and Grace Ellul (106). Erica Whiting (114) and Nikki Sanford (137) completed West’s competitors.

Central’s Zoe Sobeck took seventh overall with a 91. She was followed by Kate Trubec (105) and Ashley Hulet (112). Abbie Crick (114) and Molly Smith (143) also played for Central.

Harbor Springs won the meet with a 375 and Freeland took second with a 385.

TC West finished first among the three junior varsity teams with a 490. Central recorded a team score of 506. West’s Patricia Davis had medalist honors for JV players with a 109. Grace Warren was fourth with a 120. Other West competitors were Morgan Harris (124), Katie Cairns (137), Kelsey Gay (144) and Megan Kiehle (151).

Central’s top JV finisher was Carrie Wynkoop, who was second overall with a 117. Carley Laird took third with a 119. The Trojans also had Samantha Mahon (131), Laura Buchanan (139), Meredith Nelson (160) and Victoria Karo (204).

Both teams return to action on Sept. 5 at the Midland Dow Invitational.


RH Stoney Creek 1

TC West 0

Rochester Hills Stoney Creek netted a goal with 10 minutes left in the first half and that was all the Cougars needed to edge TC West, 1-0, in boys soccer action.

Justin Kraft was in net for the Titans (0-4-1), who open league play tonight at home against Alpena.

Glen Lake 2

Northport 0

Mike Skipski scored near the midpoint of the first half and Reiss Skrocki added a goal with 13 minutes to go in the game as Glen Lake blanked Northport 2-0.

Glen Bredin assisted on both goals for the Lakers (2-1). Keith Brown earned the shutout in the net.


Benzie sweepsHesperia Invitational

Benzie Central swept the Hesperia Invitational on Wednesday.

The Huskies won the boys meet over Saugatuck, 33-77. The girls prevailed over Saugatuck, 43-47.

“That’s one of the toughest courses, if not the toughest, in the state,” Benzie coach Asa Kelly said. “It’s a true cross country course with hills and valleys. It’s a challenge.”

Freshman Brayden Huddleston led the Huskies, placing third in 18:57. Ismael Halaweh came in sixth at 19:29, Andrew Hayden seventh at 19:44, Jake Williams ninth at 20:02 and Noah Robotham 12th at 20:12.

The girls were paced by Bryce Cutler, who finished third in 22:01. Makayla Huddleston placed sixth at 23:47, Stephanie Schaub eighth at 23:55, Rachael Peabody 10th at 24:00 and Abbey Clasen 20th at 25:13.

Trojans third atEast Jordan Invite

The Traverse City Central boys finished third in the East Jordan Invitational.

Charlevoix won the Division 1-3 race with 27 points. Petoskey had 53 and Central 70. Charlevoix’s Tristen Rudolph was the overall winner in 17:20. Petoskey’s Mark Smith was second in 17:34.

Central, which did not send its top seven varsity, was led by Marco Morcote, who came in eighth in 18:45. Forrest Lewellan was 12th in 19:05, Blake Beyer 15th in 19:10, Spencer Schulte 16th in 19:16 and Trevor Sepanik 19th in 19:37.


Leelanau County 8

TC St. Francis JV 0

The Leelanau County boys tennis team won all eight flights in sweeping a match from the St. Francis junior varsity, 8-0.

Singles winners for Leelanau were: No. 1, Joel Sneed, 6-0, 6-0 over Christian Stellin; No. 2, Kyle Hayes, 6-3, 6-0 over Jonathan Pax; No. 3, Echo Schaefer, 6-4, 6-2 over Jake Musljocavich; and No. 4, Lindsey Boone, 6-2, 6-3 over Brody Ray.

Doubles winners were: Cody Hayes and Cathy Daniel, 6-3, 6-3 over Charlie Donahue and Ryan Grombala; Mary Popp and Becca Brown, 6-1, 6-0 over Paul Koehler and John Bramer; James Kilgore and Ben Schweikart, 6-1, 6-0 over Daniel Harden and Tom Jamieson; Lexi Galla and Alex Bennett, 6-3, 6-1 over Lucas Tull and Steven Winkler.

TC Central varsity B 6

Elk Rapids 0

Traverse City Central’s varsity B swept all six matches against Elk Rapids’ varsity squad.

Winning singles matchers were Ron Dohm (6-1, 6-0), Chase Knoblock (6-0, 6-0), R.J. Fenton (6-0, 6-0) and Ben Grams (6-0, 6-0).

The Trojans’ two doubles victories came from Andy Columbo/Nate Michno (6-3, 6-1) and Carl Rasmussen/Danny Madion (6-0, 6-0).


Midland JV 57

TC West JV 36

Midland started out the season with a 57-36 win over Traverse City West in junior varsity football action.

For TC West, Dan Phifer scored on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Zach Zoutendam and on a 28-yard run.

Zoutendam also connected with Logan Pawloski on a 25-yard TD pass.

Jack Bishop added a 30-yard scoring run and two extra points, while Trevor Goudey and Taylor McWethy had touchdown runs of 6 and 5 yards.

East Jordan JV 20

TC Central Frosh 14

The Traverse City Central freshmen dropped their opener, 20-14, to the East Jordan JV.

The Trojans scored on a John Pupel to John Leamming pass and on a Abraham Russell run.

Central, which forced two fumbles, travels to Chippewa Hills today.
