CADILLAC — Brady Ray and Nathan Tafelsky went 3-0 Friday to win No. 2 doubles as St. Francis finished second in a season-opening tennis quad at Cadillac.
Zeeland East won the quad with 17 points. The Gladiators had 12, Alpena 10 and Cadillac 8.
Ray and Tafelsky beat Alpena (6-2, 6-1), Zeeland East (6-4, 6-2) and Cadillac (6-4, 7-6).
The Gladiators took second in three flights. Jack Krcmarick defeated Cadillac (7-5, 7-5) and East (6-3, 6-3) before falling to Alpena (1-6, 3-6) at No. 2 singles; freshmen Ryan Navin and Tyler Spigarelli downed Alpena (6-1, 6-1) and Cadillac (4-6, 7-6, 10-3) before losing in the final to East (5-7, 6-3, 7-10) at No. 3 doubles; Jackson Richmond and Victor Casler upended Alpena (6-2, 6-2) and Cadillac (6-4, 6-4) before losing to East (2-6, 3-6) at No. 4 doubles.
Gus Danz won one match at No. 1 singles while Blake Bandrowski and Jay Jones took one match at No. 1 doubles.
St. Francis competes in the East Kentwood Invitational today.
Central JV wins GTA Invite
Traverse City Central won five flights to capture the Grand Traverse Area JV Invitational.
The Trojans finished with 21 points, Midland Dow 19, Traverse City West 4 and St. Francis 3.
Flight winners for Central: Ron Dohm at No. 1 singles, Chase Knoblock at No. 2, R.J. Fenton at No. 3, Jack McKay-Luke Fagerstrom at No. 3 doubles and Luke Smith-Noah McKenzie at No. 4.
Pezzetti leads Trojans to 8th at Jenison
Amelia Pezzetti shot a 78 Friday as Traverse City Central placed eighth in the 16-team Jenison Invitational.
The Trojans finished with a score of 391 on The Meadows at Grand Valley.
Pezzetti took second overall. Zoe Sobeck fired a 99, Kate Trubec 102 and Abbie Crick 112.
Central and West will compete at Brighton on Monday.
Buckley splits pair in Comet Cup
Tyler Welch scored two goals as Buckley defeated Forest Area 6-1 in the consolation finals of the Comet Cup.
Ryan Dunn, Peter Hansen, Steven Dresnek and Dominique Kraskie also tallied for the Bears (1-1). Isabel Vermilya added two assists. Welch and Dustin Tandy shared goaltending duties.
Buckley dropped its opener to McBain Northern Michigan Christian 1-0. Welch recorded seven saves.
