KINGSLEY — Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of a fire that burned a Blair Township home to the ground.
The fire occurred Monday at about 4 a.m. Blair Township Fire Department Chief Jim Carroll said the resident was not home and firefighters arrived to find the 3100 Red School Road structure completely engulfed in flames.
“No walls were left standing. It was completely burning,” he said.
The home was a total loss, but Carroll said firefighters were able to save a “really old, dilapidated shed” on the property after flaming debris burned a spot on the roof. He said a cat inside the home perished in the fire.
Grand Traverse Rural Fire Department assisted in putting out the fire. Carroll said the fire was extinguished by 8 a.m. and, despite concerns, a propane tank near the blaze did not explode.
