BATA changes in store

TRAVERSE CITY — Bay Area Transportation Authority kicks off changes Monday that are designed to reduce waits for passengers.

The bus system is starting a new “Link and Loop” model in place of its dial-a-ride and zone services.

It reduces wait time and expands service hours by linking residents in outlying areas with fixed routes to and from Traverse City.

“Starting Monday, riders will reserve a Link pick-up as they did with the former dial-a-ride system,” a BATA news release states. “Miles are saved when the riders ‘link’ with a nearby Loop fixed stop route.”

BATA officials believe the system will save 55,000 miles annually. It also will increase the frequency of village loop routes to Kingsley, Empire, Northport, Suttons Bay, Interlochen and Williamsburg to every hour.

More information on BATA’s new service model can be found at bata.net, 231-941-2324 (option 3) or info@bata.net.
