TRAVERSE CITY — A section of Sixth Street adjacent to Munson Medical Center will close to through traffic for utility improvements and installation of a new culvert for Kids Creek.
Munson Medical Center contracted with Molon Excavating to do the work beginning from the alley west of South Elmwood Avenue to the western edge of the intersection with Beaumont Place. The new culvert under Sixth Street will allow Munson to return a section of the creek that runs underneath a parking lot back to the surface. The new stream bed will run through a park-like setting adjacent to Munson’s planned cancer center north of Sixth Street.
Site work will begin Monday and should be completed by June 9. The street will be closed to all traffic most of the time and Traverse City officials advise motorists to find alternative routes. Vehicle and pedestrian detours will be provided.
