Sweet weather on tap for parades, fireworks

TRAVERSE CITY — Parade-goers and fireworks spectators should be in the clear when it comes to weather at the National Cherry Festival.

Forecasters predict temperatures near 80 degrees and sunny skies will accompany today’s Junior Royale Parade, which steps off at 6:30 p.m. and travels from Front to Union to Seventh streets.

The sky should remain clear for tonight’s fireworks show at 10:30 p.m. over West Grand Traverse Bay, as well as for fireworks at the same time Saturday, said John Boris, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gaylord.

“I don’t anticipate there being a whole lot of cloud cover (tonight) or Saturday night, either. I think the conditions for both nights should be pretty good,” Boris said.

Pleasant weather in the low-80s should continue through Friday. It will be a few degrees warmer and slightly humid during Saturday’s Cherry Royale Parade, which begins at 11:15 a.m. The parade moves from Front to Union to Thirteenth streets.
